Would you point to me a good primer on rechargeable and chargers?

I have a whole slew of NiMH eneloops, duraloops, and some black-topped duracells. I've been using a LaCross BC-900, but lately I can't use any mode but the charge mode (no refresh, etc.). I need a whole bunch more AAA's, and could use some D sized cells (I used AA's in a D cell adapter), but don't know what to look for at this point.

I also am lost on the entire slew of LiON batteries, including 18650. I've looked around here, searched, but there is SO MUCH information its hard to parse down.

I know newbie questions like this can be frowned upon, but I appreciate the help!
