Wrong Batteries?

I bought 4 new 18650 3400mAH panasonic batteries. I just opened up the package and the batteries don't have a protruding positive (nipple). Are these the wrong kind? I put one in my eagletacblight and it didn't work, I'm charging tgem to see if it wasn't just the batteries being dead.

If you bought unprotected (non-PCB/printed circuit board) naked Panasonic cells, they come with a flat top that is pretty shallow. This is normal for the type.

If your light has springs on both the positive and negative end, they should work fine, but you don't specify your use, so it's tough to really say.

Are these cells meant for a multi-cell light?

Some batteries don't have that nipple. You could use a little button magnet stick on the battery positive end. This will work for flashlight that does not have a positive spring end.

Nevermind. Just put a bit of a charge on them and now they work on my Eagletac. I assume they'll work on my Thrunite Catapult V3 with the extra battery tube?

That looks like a fake EagleTac light.

Nevermind. Just put a bit of a charge on them and now they work on my Eagletac. I assume they'll work on my Thrunite Catapult V3 with the extra battery tube?

Some flat top cells have such a flat top that they can't be used in series. I know very little about that light, but it looks like that might be problematic.
 
EagleTac states on their website that their lights are designed NOT to take unprotected cells. I assume to prevent noob users from causing accidents by careless Li-ion use. So an unprotected 3400 mAh Panasonic should be expected not to work in an EagleTac light.

For fixes, search the forum. I've read about using small magnet spacers (be careful not to short anything out!), putting a drop of solder on top of the cell (hmm...). Maybe it's possible to modify the flashlight's contact but that might do away with reverse polarity protection (and void the warranty).

Being a complete newb and notnhaving much knowledge about that stuff, just saying "ummmmm.....voltage meter" does me no good. Thanks for the help though.

here are some tips...........
4 18650 batteries is a powerful combination - you should understand how to use/charge before they are installed
its best to check the voltage before and after charging a battery
don't be cheap when it comes to batteries or chargers
never leave the house while batteries are charging
 
Gotcha. That makes sense. Also to clarify, I do not plan on using all 4 batteries in any 1 light. They are spares so that I always have a charged spare set. My Thrunite takes 2 - 18650s but will not wirk with these batteries. However, my armytek, eagletac, and monsterlight will work with them and each light only requires one battery at a time. So I think I'll keep them.

Single-cell lights are generally safer to use as they avoid some of the issues with multi-cell setups. :)

Bottom line: especially in multi-cell uses (single-cell too!), you should at all times be (more or less) aware of the State-of-Charge of each individual cell. That's where the voltmeter comes in. Protected cells are a 'safety net' that's best not relied upon.
