I'd like to acquire a black E2E, if it exists. Does it exist? I see most listings for natural HA finish.

They exist! All "original" E series lights of all generations came in black.

Lumens Factory makes an E2e clone in natural and in black. They are excellent lights, and they are available, whereas a Surefire E2e in black will be scarce and difficult to find.

The alternative I was thinking to do is convert an E2D Executive Defender to something like an E2E. I've found the LF E series body's knurling to be too slick for my taste. The stock SF body texture is ideal. I love my E2D's smaller head, but since it has a blemished/oxidized reflector, I'm considering getting this with a stainless, less-aggressively crenelated bezel. Also update the lamp to this in the high CRI version and run one 16650 cell.

Yup, I had an original E2-BK back in the day. They were all type II finish. There were E2-HA back then though.
