XM2 mods

Anyone done any mods to their XM2? If so, what did you do and how do you like?

Changed the tailswitch out. Installed new O-rings throughout the light. Put in a UCL lens. Installed an IMS SO17XA reflector. That's about it. I like it alot!

I did the tailswitch swap and like it better than the one that came with it.

Were the lens and reflector simple drop-ins or did you have to do some tweaking? Also, where did you get them, Flashlightlens?

heh, well the reflector is pretty much a drop in. The lens... Well... It isn't. I machined out a substantial part of the inside of the head in order to fit it in there.

Is the XM-2 Garrity/Ozark tailcap/clicky mod the same process as it is going from a Garrity/Ozark into a G2?

Pretty much the same. You have to use the Ozark/Garrity button. Works great!

I installed a Downboy 1000 and swapped out the led with a TWOJ. Have some 20mm reflectors coming to try out too but couldn't be happier as it is.

Are the SO17XA and 20mm reflectors the same diameter?

Cos I found out my SO17XA reflector diameter is just too small for the XM2 bezel and how do I prevent it from moving around?

Is there a reflector with a diameter around the same as the inner diameter of the Bezel head?

Hi, may I know where can I get more info in changing the tailswitch? cos its really hard to visualize with out any instructions and pictures.

You'll have to search through the old threads in the Elektrolumens forum to find the info on the switch. There is a recent thread on the reflector swap on the same forum so I wanted to find out for myself if it really is an improvement or not.

I found the page on the reflector but not the Tailswitch.

Anyway Theres only 2 pages under elektro Lumens. so I guess the old thread about the tail switch is no long there?

At the bottom of the page when you are in the Elektrolumes forum, you need to set it to view threads from all dates. Usually it only shows the threads that have been posted in during the past few weeks.

Here's an excerpt from the G2 Clickie thread I saved in a word.doc from 8 months ago.

"If you want, the clickie switch can be taken out of the Garrity tailcap with no cutting or damage to it whatsoever. Just gently push a jeweler's or tiny screwdriver under the side of the rubber boot of the clickie on the end of the light and gently pull up slightly until it starts coming out. You can then just pull the boot out of the tailcap with your fingers. This will leave a black plastic retaining ring and that can be pried out with the same screwdriver prying up on alternate sides. With the retaining ring removed, just push the switch out from the other, (spring), end using gentle force with a blunt instrument. Be gentle and it will come out...Here's an added bonus! The rubber boot for the Garrity clickie is also a perfect fit for the G2! Just push it down inside the G2 tailcap using a pencil eraser end or another blunt tool until the end of the boot pops out of the hole in the end of the G2 tailcap. Straighten it out with your fingers, tighten the cap down on the G2 body and and it's good to go! "

I did this in less than 15 minutes (with interuptions)and now have a RELIABLE XM2 with a clickie.
