I am going to buy a set of off-road LED lights. If I buy them today....they will have lumileds in them. If I wait 2 months, they will have Cree XP-G's in them. The output will be the same, the number of emitters [8] will be the same, but I know the XP-G's will be more efficient (lower power consumption).

Any other advantage to waiting? Maybe I can modify them more easily if they are Cree's...to get more output?

Thoughts?

not knowing the size of the enclosure used, its likely that with XPG you'll get the same light in an enclosure half the size:D

I don't know if I really want a smaller enclosure. Since it will be mounted to the front of my truck, I want it to be sized relative to my truck (I don't want it to look out of place).

So, efficiency is the only advantage?

Price? Would you ever want to run them with your engine off? (Since they'll be using much less power for the same output.) Actually, it seems a bit silly to have them providing the same output, because they limiting factor would be heat.

I agree... more efficient should be useful if you run them with the truck off. I'd wait.

I don't think that I'd ever really need them with the truck off. I think the price will be the same, they are just updating them. I was about to buy them when I found out that they are updating to the XP-G.

I'll wait, but I hate waiting.
