When you remove the yellow phosphor stuff from a white LS led, do you end up with a blue or royal blue led?

Coloured leds don't have a pretty beam pattern (using NX-05) do they?

I did this to one, and it does appear to act similar to a black light, but it looks pretty blue. I've not seen a royal blue, so I can't be sure as to whether it is just blue or royal blue.

My 2 cents

It's probably somewhere in between "regular" blue and royal blue. Some place around 455nm (450-460nm). Although the denuded LED might act a lot like a blacklight, it isn't one.

Well, I can confirm that it's no UV cause it doesn't work with UV pens.

Anyway, this is why I asked:

Pictured a MM with BB on left and LI on right, the LI was white like the BB before I scooped out the goo....

Is it possible that the LED is permanently damaged as if it were overvolted for a short time? In otherwords, if it were designed for alkalines and you put in a set of lithiums, could the higher voltage result in a color change?

looks royal blue to me. allthough I could be wrong from looking at the pictures. Plain blue is more of a whitish blue and royal blue is deep dark pure saturation blue.
