Zebralight SC51w problem?

I recently purchased a flashlight from Zebralight (an SC51w). I love this thing (neutral tint and UI are great), but I ran into a problem right off the bat. At first, I could switch between all six brightness levels just fine, but then I tried to access and change the "second sub-level of high." Now the light shuts off when I double click while in high mode (instead of changing brightness or going to strobe). It comes right back onto high when you click the switch again (like normal). All the other levels work fine (and stay memorized). I've tried every click combination imaginable (thinking that I didn't understand the directions), but it just won't go to the second level of high anymore. As a side note, I can double click and see the light go from high to a lower brightness for a split second before it shuts off. Any ideas??? I e-mailed zebralight this morning and haven't heard back yet. Thanks!

Did you try another battery? Some ZebraLights operate strangely when the battery gets low. Try an NiMh, a primary lithium, and even (gasp!) an alkaline.

Yes I have tried all three of those (still doesn't work). In fact I just received an e-mail from zebralight and they said try a new battery too. Other ideas? Thanks!

You could try cleaning all of the accessible electrical contact points in the light, but since all of the other levels work, I suspect you'll need to RMA it to ZebraLight.

Cleaned off quite a bit of silcone from the tailcap contact and it got my hopes up, but it didn't fix it. Guess I'll have to see what Zebralight says. Thanks for the input.

Try 6 double clicks again, and settting the secondary to something else.

I have tried that and many other click combos (doesn't work)...thanks for trying though! I am now putting the light in medium mode and am going to run an alkaline dead to see what happens.

This probably isn't helpful since you seem to have tried these things already, but I do recall reading other instances of the same issue and it has almost always come down to either the battery or some kind of contact disruption cause (usually) by the thread lube.

Please oh please tell me you got it from a retailer. I've not had good luck with zebralight cs lately.

The second sub-level of the High can be configured after 6 double clicks. Double click (startng with the 7th) to cycle and select different brightness levels or strobes. Short click to turn off the light when finishing configurations. The selections for the second sub-level of the High are memorized after the light is turned off and through battery changes.

It also should be noted that you need to be in the high mode when doing the 6 dbl clks in order to enter the high mode's configuration settings.

Just to emphasize again.. make sure the tailcap is tight and you have a good battery in it. Eneloops work best as they can handle the draw required on the high output settings on these lights. I've found lesser quality NiMH batteries to not perform optimally on the higher levels.

It sounds like your light might be jumping out of the high setting, back to a lower level because of low/weak battery output... and then that,, will not allow you to enter into the high mode setting options. You must be in high mode to set.

Running it dead on an alkaline and then trying other batteries didn't work. I tried an eneloop XX, energizer nimh, L91, and an energizer alkaline. The light will stay on high just fine, so i dunno. Thanks for the input.
