Hello all! I have been looking for a good zooming led flashlight and have not had any luck searching on this forum. The cheap chinese zooming lights all have the issue of losing tons of output when in "throw" mode, and the only other brand seems to be LED Lenser.

Are the LED Lenser lights efficient when in throw or flood mode?

Has anyone attempted to mod an LED Lenser to use 18650 and an xml?

The unregulated lights get dimmer and dimmer as the cells drain, so are less popular...and the zooms tend to not have water resistance.

The best zoomies I actually USE are the one's Vinh (On his sub-forum here) mods. They suffer from the same short comings, but he soups them up so much that the output just blows everything else that can zoom out of the water.

That way, you get an LED powered by 18650 or two 18350/16340 etc....and using XML2 or MGT2, etc....with an aspherical zoom lens.

You will be better off buying a light with decent throw and good spill. Zooming lights are junk imo. The beam on LED Lensers are very ugly.
