Very briefly: No, the Surge is not as bright as the US. Its brightness probably falls somewhere between a 2x123 and 3x123 Surefire.

Would give more details but tight schedule right now.

I guess it would be between E2 (60 lumens) and 8NX (110 lumens) ....probably about 80-90 lumens?

I would say they're pretty close in brightness but in very different way. With tightest focus on both lights, Surge has a smooth bright hot spot; Stinger has brighter, smaller and sharper hot spot.

For general use, I prefer Surge due to its smoother beam. Stinger prevails in carriability. Not that Surge is bad in durability, Stinger (even PolyStinger) is simply tougher.

However, both of Surge and Stinger are far from US.

I just received my Surge today and my God
it's an awesome flashlight! The above
comparisons are right in line with what I
saw today too. Its brighter than my SF G2
for now. I had read where after about 10 minutes the voltage will drop about 20 percent
and I would guess the SF will be on par with it at that time.
