I noticed my old Mag 3xD is about 3mm thicker than a newer one. Is this older body style better suited for a mod than a newer, thinner walled one? I can't give it up, I have abused this thing for years. Most notably, it rolled down a 50 ft damn back when I was in college. Beer had nothing to do with it :drunk:

I have one I bought in 1988 at a Marine Base Exchange(El Toro MCAS). When I bought a Diamond 3W LED bulb for it last year, I found that it didn't fit. I had to put the bulb in a newer model Maglite. So evidently the specs have changed a bit since then.

I put a reflector from a newer one and it fit. I also put in a diamond 3w withno trouble. The bezel is the same size as the newer ones but the head assemblies are not interchangeable.

Besides the big bore that Black Bear mentioned, those old Mags also have a screw-on top plate for the switch which takes a MagC Kiu kit.

Sounds like the ideal platform for a Mag85.

Yeah sounds like a platform for hot-wire bulbs since led heatsinks are machined for the newer bodies.
