Stepping down a USBs voltage of +5V @ 500 ma down to something I can plug this into without frying...

:anyone: :huh2: :thanks:

Im going to start my long overdue project of building a USB powered Luxeon light.:ohgeez:

That driver is not limited to use in boost configuration. You can also configure it for buck or even boost/buck. This page shows how to use it in alternate (other than boost only) configurations. So, with it in buck or boost/buck you can run it off of the 5V without needing a resistor.

Hello there,

If you are using a Luxeon Star (white) you can get away with using only
a single resistor to drive that LED from the USB port, of value 4.7 ohms,
rated at 1 watt (can also use two 10 ohm 1/2 watt resistors in parallel).
The difference in current draw is about 60ma more for the resistor than
for a down converter with efficiency about 80 percent.
This way you can save the converter for something else that really
needs it.

mmmm...this would make it much simpler...
I was worried about the USBs regulator burning out if I soldered a regulator on to a regulator, but a resistor supply will do...

um...resistors are to be soldered on to the (+) contacts right? or it doesnt matter.
