Ok... more stupid questions from a noobie...

Im putting together a light that will using a FM 6aa-2d holder, a downboy 917, and a LuxIII. This light wil be a secondary, lower output light source attached to another light.

1: im using a switch with multiple output levels, does it need to be wired between the db and the led, or the batt and the db?

2: does the DB put out a specific voltage? ive gathered the 917 refers to the mah it puts out... but ive found nothing on the voltage. Im trying to figure out what/where to order the emitter for this project... and since the leds are batched by voltage... im not sure what ive got, or what I need. ive been cautioned not to connect the batt untill the led is hooked up or id just do that, and break out the DMM.
Thanks!

The output voltage is not a "set voltage", the output voltage will be regulated to the forward voltage of the LED itself.

The Downboy will drop the Vin (battery input voltage) to the Vf (forword voltage) of the LED untill the battery level drops below the Vf. then the Vout will be the same as Vin (less converter inefficiency)

Downboy converters and must others drivers do not have "open load protection" so don't power the downdoy without the LED connected.

Your switch should go between the converter and battery.

The Downboy strives to deliver a set current to the LED, regardless of the voltage. Thats why it will drive a Lux III with a 3.6 v Vf at the same current as a Lux V with a 7 v Vf (as long as Vbatt is at least a few tenths above Vf).

A Lux III with a lower Vf will still get the same current as one with a higher Vf, but will consume less power overall.

so this is almost idiot proof... connect the led, regaurdless of the model and bin, and it will work? As long as it will take 917mah?

Make sure you have good heatsinking before powering the LED with 917mA.
Good heating is always a must for a good lifespan when overdriving an LED.

it will be attached directly to the reflector from a spent SF P60 lamp assy, and to the rear, a copper disk... most likley. I hope (fingers crossed) that that will be enough.
