I have a 90mW PGLIIIA and thought I would try lighting a match with it. I couldn't do it.. I even tried three different kinds of matches (all with blackened tips). I know this is not the best way to measure output, but could it be possible I received an underperforming laser?

The website makes comparisons with competitors prices. Who are the competitors used?

Could not find any one who sells >100mW for that price. I'm probably looking at the wrong sites. Always new sites to check out.

MY REVIEW OF MY NV-80 FORM lucentoptics.com

NICE LASER USE 2 AA NOT AAA
WORKS GOOD WITH 2500ma AA
RECHARGEABLE

IT HAS A BIG DOWN SIDE MINE
HAS BAD Divergence AT 15FEET
THE SPOT IS THE SIZE OF A
U.S. QUARTER (IT DOESN'T SEAM TO GET MUCH BIGGER
BATTERY WILL DIE FAST GET
RECHARGEABLE

BUT IT HAS POPPED A BALLOON
AT 10FEET

LIGHT A MATCH AT 18 INCHES

AND YOU CAN SEE THE BEAM
GO UP AND UP AND UP TO SPACE
AT NIGHT WITH NO FOG OR HAZE

I GIVE IT A
9 OUT OF TEN

I'm sure they'll work better with Energizer E2's than with rechargeables. Invest in a pair or two. They're worth it and provide about 3 times as much runtime as with regular alkalines. I'll have an output vs runtime graph and testing section on our site soon.

While I'm not quite on-topic for this thread, I just ordered an NV-60 and would be happy to relay my reactions once I receive it. I'm a moderate flashaholic, but this will be my first laser, aside from the the lil' red one my cats chase. :)

Does lucentoptics.com offer a CPF discount? They link CPF in their forum link.

I'm not sure, Mac, but I was assuming the answer was "no". The LucentOptics.com site was created by a couple of CPFers after some groupbuys they arranged for the same laser seemed to go very well. The price that they are charging on the site seems just as good as the groupbuy pricing, so I wasn't expecting to see a further discount. (I'd take one though!) :)

It is a little odd how their "Forums" link just points you at the CPF homepage, but it is labeled as such, so it's not deceptive or anything. I imagine they plan to add more links if things take off for them.

:huh2:

(hmmm... at ten feet the spot would be what - about the size of a dime?)

O-kayyyy... so were you using a lens, or was that a really weak balloon?

I think a lot depends on the balloon. My nv-80 doesn't have bad divergence, but it's not as good as the rpl-300 or the leadlights. As far as batteries go, any sort of high powered laser is gonna suck power out of batteries like crazy.

If you're going to sell the laser, maybe it should go in the non-light "sell" category. I put the stuff I'm selling there, I figure that although lasers are technically "lights" they aren't flashlights.
