:huh2:

Can anyone tell me which of the two would be brighter? A stock Inova X5 UV or a AA Mini Maglite with the TerraLUX Ministar2 kit? Has anyone used both of these? The Inova X5 has five 5mm UV LEDs while the TerraLUX only has one but it's a 1w Cree. Hmmmm...

Hi Kromatics,

The TerraLUX TLE5-UV has about 2-3X the UV output of the X5UV.

'Brighter' isn't really the right measure because the 'brightness' you perceive is energy being wasted outside of the UV spectrum which is invisible to the naked eye.

What's your application?

Depends on what you're using it for. The Inova has a very very nice *flood* profile. On the other hand, the Terralux Ministar2 UV can throw because of the small die area of the Cree 7090 UV LED. The stock reflector of the Terralux leaves a lot to be desired (let me be blunt--it sucks). However, a simple solution is to use an NX05 optic, or cut down an IMS 20 reflector so that the LED goes in further into the focal point of the reflector. I prefer the Terralux because I need UV that can throw about 20ft so I can inspect things from a distance.
