Why so few plastic LED lights?

Heat management issues; at 300ma or so, plastic lights are still probably ok. But if you want to run them at 700-1000ma, a plastic housing is not going to dissipate any of the heat and the LED will heatsoak and diminish in performance and life and even die in extreme cases.
