Got these today, and Bob asked me to report back.

My first impression is this is an awesome mod. I shot it against the wall while waiting for dark, and then took it outside, with a Nitecore DI (also a 1xAA Q5).

There is simply no comparison. Bob's mod whipped the Nitecore like a naughty mule. It outreaches it by magnitudes. In fact, it's got so much reach I may look into putting a stippled reflector in one to see how it affects the beam.

The interface is more to my liking, too. Momentary, on and off, with a simple Surefire clicky. No fiddle-farting around with twisting the bezel to access different levels. No SOS, heartbeat, tweedle-dee or tweedle-dum. Momentary, on and off. That's all I need.

The single AA rechargeable is also a very nice power source, especially in the Eneloop low self-discharge format. I can leave one of these unused for months, and count on it firing up when I need it.

:twothumbs for a great Surefire mod!

I have been using a F04 beam shaper for a few days now and really like the results. However I like the LDF file from flashlightlens.com even better - so I will be getting a 25 mm LDF lens to fit into the F04. It's really nice to have both throw and flood in the same light.
