I'm going to make a couple budget lights for my bike. I ordered 100 of those 14000mcd 5mm LED's from DX. How many lumens do you guys think each one will be? I'm guessing around 5, but I'm not sure. I won't have the LED's for probably a month. I don't think i will be using a driver board, but I may. Im going to use 3 nimh in series so 3.6v nominal.

Wow, thats pretty low. so im going to need at least 40 to 50 of them to equal the P4 LED. Not very efficent, heh. Also the cost is still a tiny bit less but not much. I have no idea what kind of beam I'll have either. I'm guessing the amps to run 40 led's will be more then the P4 would draw at the same brightness. I will just have to experiment and see. I may be buying some P4's and going that route.

The high power LED can also give you a tighter beam(or a wider one) with the right reflector/optic.

The 5mm LED would give you a wide spot.
