In deciding on a new LED thrower, the choices mystify me. For example, the Dereelight-DBS V2 Cree XR-E WC Q5 pills are offered in "1x18650, 1x17670 or 1x168a".

I don't understand. When you choose a pill, are you also picking only one battery setup to power the light?

And why would one prefer one battery setup over another? Why 18650 over the CR123?

Thanks for the assist.

The 18650 battery has around the same power as 2 CR123 batteries(presuming good 18650 battery). It is also closer to the LED's voltage so the driver doesn't have to work as hard(more efficient). The 18650 is also rechargeable.

The 17670 is around 2 CR123 in length but has less capacity then the 18650 battery.

Dereelight does have multi voltage pills the let you use 2 CR123s/RCR123sif that;s what you want. It will also run on 1 18650 battery but won't be as bright.
