Firstly mods, if this should be in the battery forum, then please accept my apologies.

Ok guys, I'd like to mod one of the DX P7 flashlights to run off an external battery pack.

I see that most of the P7 lights run off between 3.6 and 4.2v.

I'm hoping to run them off of either of the following:

3nr Nimh cells run in series giving 3.6v or 4nr giving 4.8v.

Will the 3 cells in series give enough voltage to run the light, or as the cells discharge and drop voltagle slighty, cause the light to run out?

If the 3 cells won't work, will the 4 cells (@4.8v) kill the light, or just reduce the lifespan of the led? (not fussed if I drop the lifespan from 50,000hrs say to 10,000hrs, but if it's going to reduce it to a matter of minutes or hours, then I can't get on with that).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dave

I would think it depends on the forward voltage of the DX P7 light. What kind of driver does it have, if it has any at all?
