hello all -

I need help from you computer Yodas. I have an Archos AV700 w/ a 100 gb hard drive which I'd like to replicate. I already have a an exact spare drive. Any thoughts on the best way to do this? Would cloning also copy the Archos OS?

Thanks in advance for your ideas and help.

I know in OS X you would open Disk Utility and "Restore" the contents of th Archos onto the empty drive.

That method creates an exact copy. I've even booted from a clone drive.

I suppose there's the same (or very similar) thing for Windows?

Hi,

Don't know if this apply to your Archos. My disk ran out on my XP machines, bought bigger drive. Use Acronis True Image, cloned it. Put the new drive in, not even one problem. I tried Norton Ghost before, but I had better luck with True Image.

We use Norton GHOST in our Corp. office.
For home use True Image is good as well.

Would anyone recommend to me an external HD to back up my PC to? This True Image product looks like I may be able to use it. I'm not truly skilled at this stuff.
I've never backed up data before except burn a CD with my pictures and bookmarks.
