Lighthound lists the input voltage up to 4.2v for this light - but the conventional wisdom has been that the Fenix lights are not designed for 14500 use in the 1xAA configuration.

Does anyone know if a 14500 is safe and what the resulting output would be?

You may burn out the low setting but I'm sure Lighthound will replace it since they say it is ok.

Output will be about the same as the L2D and P2D.

My L1T q5 will not run the 14500 at all.

Fenix does not make a L1T Q5, the L1T V2 has a Q2, it had a Rebel 80 previously. I have the L1T V2 with the Rebel 80 and the L1D Q5 and both will run (Turbo) with a 14500. These will work (Turbo) with a RCR123 on the P2D battery tube as well.

I've been running half a split CRV3(3v primary) in a Leatherman version of this light for the last 2 days. It is visibly brighter on high than a NiMH, and low works just fine.

I have a few CRV's sitting around from a incan "project" so I will do a semi scientific:whistle: runtime test in the next few days...

Well I don't want to lose low mode...

Has anyone run a 3.0v (lifepo) 14500? Seems like that would be a safer option and still get the L2T performance in an L1T body.

Yes. I've done for a few months now. No problems. Low mode works fine. High is noticeably brighter, but only runs for 24 mins. I'd say as bright as running it with 2 NIMH AA's.
