Here I'd like to share my M1 mod.
I love the shape of M1 but don't like the internal design.

Needed Parts
- M1
- McR19-XR Reflector
- Machined CAN
- GD750 Converter Board
- CREE R2
- 16.5mm x 2mm Round MCPCB

I like the threaded heatsink but machinist said it is difficult to make a thread in the body without chuck marks. So I changed my design. This can easily restore to IR light. I forgot to take a pic of CAN.

Mod result is very satisfied except the beam path of narrow window.
The lens is press fit to an o-ring. And I have no idea to replace the lens with better one. So I didn't touch the lens side.

Wish M1 has a bezel ring!!!
:thanks:

Still the best form factor short of an M6- I love it! Nice mod, I bore out a bit of the aperture in the head to open things up a bit, but it's tricky. Well done, and enjoy.

Can you include more pics on how you made the LE and how it fits in the body?

Sorry. I have no more pics because I did this mod for the request of a local Surefire mania.

Main point is how to squeeze the total height, bottom of CAN to bottom of reflector, of LE within 8mm. My CAN design is as below.
M1_CAN.jpg

The aparature of body is about 14mm dia and protruded part of PCB go into the body.
Ground is press contact like a original M1.

Cheers,

Nice work ROK, I've been interested in doing something like this as well.

Do you think you can crack away the lens and make the bezel opening wider?

Here is another thread found today while searching for other info.

Hi nekomane,
Glad to see you again!

I don't think it is difficult to crack away the lens. Just worry about making some scars and no lens for replacement. There are useless and plenty of wall thickness both head and body to bore out.

If you have a plan to mod M1 you can make it with threaded CAN. PM or e-mail me I'll inform you my original design concept.

Cheers.

nekomane I put some lens protector onto the back of the lens, then put the head in the lathe chuck and reamed out the opening in the head. This made a bigger opening with the original lens in place. Another one I did had a replacement press-fit lens but that is harder todo than the blind boring operation.
