D cells: radioworld.co.uk has pairs of powerex 11000s for £19 each, including VAT: that's the cheapest I've seen name branded ones in Europe full-stop. Including Germany, which I was expecting more of, TBH. Ansmanns are at least €12 each for 9kmAh.
Charger: depends what you want. I'm probably going Ansmann XBase as it will also do LIIons, but there are a couple of deals - radioworld, again, has a maha C808M for £63.47 inc.
