I have a 5W led star

Is it ok to use this extra ac to dc wall adapter I have? Its rated output is 12V 1Amp

That should work fine. Watch the polarity though when connecting it of course.

Another point worth noting - The data sheet for that device recommends that you attach a 220μF, 50V Capacitor across the power input as close to the puck as possible, when your power leads exceed eighteen inches. This will smooth the dc delivered to the puck and help it operate as designed.

Polarity checking goes double when working with electrolytic capacitors. :poof:
