KL4 on 3 CR123s????

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find a quick answer....

Anyway, can you run a KL4 on three 123 cells? For example using one of DSpeck's extenders on a E2E. If so what would be the additional runtime duration with the extra cell?

As I understand it, the KL4 is a boost-only circuit, not a boost/buck like the KL1 so it won't work at 9V. It goes into direct drive when the voltage gets too high. Don't know if anyone has actually tried it, but the result is likely to be a fried KL4. On the other hand, people direct drive 5W Luxeons with 3x123 and it works fine as long as the heatsinking is good, so maybe it would survive?
