I just tried it with one of my lights and it works fine.

There are at least 2 versions of the 2AA multimode Mini Maglite. They have different threading and different tail caps.
The TCS-1 works OK with the flashlight version which is Mini Maglite supplied with a lanyard hole in its tail cap. I don't think it works with the other version.
