Red KL1, 9 volts?

I recently received a brand new KL1-HA-RD from Howard at Bulldog Enterprises. It has the scalloped bezel and the CE & FCC logos.

I was going to put it on the UBH II and use three lithium batteries (9 volts). I just learned about the lower Vf of red LED's (Red KL4 post) and wonder if this might not be a good idea. I've been running the KL1-HA-WH at 9 volts with no problem whatsoever. I also have the Inova X5T in red and it only uses one lithium battery, instead of two like the other X5T's.

Can I run the KL1-HA-RD at 9 volts? Anyone out there know the definitive answer on this one? Appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Since the KL1 has a buck/boost circuit there there should be no problem at all. The buck circuit kicks in when the Vin is greater than the Vf of the LED. The upper voltage limit is a function of the converter and not the LED.

I've done runtime plots on the KL1/UBH at 3v, 6v, and 9v. Look in the Reviews Forum.
