It seems that short arc single end bulbs and holders are inexpensive in the 700 to 1200 watt range. What seems to be the problem is to find the right thing to dive them with and cheaply.
What kind and size of reflector(aluminum?) for spot use is the next issue. I would be using forced air cooling on holder and back side of reflector. The last step after testing is to make it portable, I was thinking of making the lamp and/or igniter (if separate) hand held. The ballast, inverter (if needed) and batteries would be on a shoulder strap (or back pack
