Hello, I did a search and really couldn't find the answer I'm looking for. I just ordered a Fenix PD31 the other day, and want to get a set of 18650s for it. Was wondering what mah rating I can use with this light. I was just going to get 3000mah but will 4000mah work? Thank you for helping!

If they're rated at 4000mah, they're probably xxxxfire cells, and clearly overrated. Aside from dangers from poor cell quality, it will work.

Yes you can, but as hellokitty said, better buy something else, can't trust something that is so much overrated. Only the best 18650 cells have just a bit higher than 3000mah capacity and they are much more expensive and from reputable manufacturers. 4000mah would be nice, but just pray for the cells to have at least the half of it.

Nope! There is no such thing as a 4000 mAh 18650. I don't think anything has tested over 3000 at typical flashlight loads.

The mAh refers to the cell capacity. As an exemple, a 1000 mAh cell will last half the time of a 2000mAh cell. As long as they have the same voltage, you can use any cells but be sure to use a cell that is protected since a PD31 does not have an over-discharge protection circuit.

Think I'll just go with AW 18650 protected then. Might as well spend the price for quality, and get what you paid for. Thanks for the info folks!

Just a thought, but make sure the PD31 can use flat top 18650's. Some lights can only use the button tops. I have no idea what the PD31 takes.

Where would be a good place to buy protected 18650's? I fell for those 4000 mAh batteries & I would like to buy something better in case these things turn out to be the junk everybody says they are. I looked at Battery Junction but they mostly sell ultrafire.

over in the Marketplace you can get AW cells directly from AW. The dealer Lighthound has them also, and since he ships from Texas, there are no international postal delays.
