For the purpose of measuring lux, is there a minimum distance from the lamp face which the sensor needs to be positioned to account for "beam formation"?

I'm looking to measure lux on headlamps mean for camping use.

To satisfy a nerds curiosity, could you elaborate on the physics behind this?

could you elaborate on the physics behind this a bit, nothing phd level, just curious as to what is occurring here.

Depending on the reflector, LED, and the positioning of the two, the beam may diverge from the front of the reflector, or it may converge a bit before diverging.

I think for a headlamp, perhaps 1m measurements would be useful too, since that is about where subjects may be illuminated with a headlamp.
