One of my relatives gifted everyone with a low quality three way utility light. Three AAA carrier driving a linear flood array, laser pointer and spot array with a side switch.
Half of then did not work right on first use.
The design had a magnet in the tailpiece where a clicky would go.
It was held in place by a threaded aluminum plug, and the tailspring rested in the plug. Some plugs were loose, causing intermittent contact even under spring pressure. But one was so tight that it could not be unscrewed, yet still was not making contact.
A tiny touch of antioxidant would have avoided the whole problem.
