Does anyone know the operating voltage range for the fenix pd32 xp-g(r5)? I can't find it anywhere.
I saw another poster that said at 2.7V, the pd32 only works in low and med - so I assume the range is at least 2.7-4.2V, but I'd like to know the lower number.
I know many would disagree with even considering it, but I'm wondering IF an unprotected 18650 (panasonic) were used, would the light turn off at some point, preventing over discharge.
Since this light has 4 modes, I'll refer to them as low-mid-high-turbo. I see no problem using an unprotected battery as you will get a warning from a substantial drop in output before 2.50v. There is no shut off point in the flashlight. It just gets dimmer. You would never want to leave the light un-attended though because it might continue to draw current. I could not tell as the meter on my power supply would not go any tighter than 0.001A (Agilent E3631A). And it was too hard to hold a current meter in series with the power supply (not enough hands).
Here is some data (Sorry, I couldn't get it to format in columns):
.........low..... mid.... high... turbo
2.40V Note 1 Note 1 Note 1 Note 1
2.50V Note 2 Note 2 Note 2 Note 2
2.60V Note 3 Note 3 Note 3 Note 3
2.70V 0.018A 0.057A 0.058A 0.058A
2.80V 0.019A 0.121A 0.123A 0.123A
2.90V 0.019A 0.194A 0.202A 0.202A
3.00V 0.019A 0.197A 0.293A 0.295A
3.50V 0.017A 0.178A 0.368A 0.919A
Note 1: Output same on all 4 modes & barely visible, current below 0.001A.
Note 2: Output same on all 4 modes, fairly dimm, current at 0.002A and still can look at the emitter.
Note 3: Output looks just slightly less than the normal "low" mode. It's the same on all 4 modes. Current at 0.016A
As the voltage on the battery drops, turbo will be the first to loose regulation at around 3.60v. High starts to loose regulation shortly afterwards. Mid doesn't lose regulation until 2.90v. And low looses regulation around 2.60v. These are approximates as I was only checking at 0.010v increments.
