I have disabled the ready-for-service feature on my Arc4. When I replace the battery the light glows for about five seconds (seems to be dimmest level). Is this normal?

Yes, the Arc4 starts up with each battery change and detects the cell type. During this process, the LED will glow faintly.

The LED glows faintly during other processes like the between flashes of the SOS, beacon, etc. This occurs when the uC is fully awake.
