Wordless Workshop was in Popular Science, right? The ones I remember had a father showing his son how to construct things out of ordinary around the house items.

Last month I cobbled up a jig at work and when done I looked up and said see just like Wordless Workshop. The gaggle of whipper snappers present rewarded me with a blank stares. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Some had heard of Popular Science at least.

Headphone amp built into a Penguin Mint tin.

Another neat mod of a mint tin. Very creative! Is that an IC-based amp or was it built with discreet components?

Anything that helps to keep bricabrac out of the landfill by recycling it is a good thing.

Forget discrete bipolars and fill that tin with Nuvistors and hand wound mini transformers. It'll sound as retro as it looks.

Neat idea. I remember nuvistors! I also have an acorn tube sitting on my kitchen table. I always thought the coolest thing about the acorns and nuvistors was that you didn't need a bazillion volts on the plate to make them work.

PhotonWrangler, I grabbed that pic off Dan's Data. He got it from here . Mine is not as pretty. The CMoy is designed around Burr-Brown 2132 op amp.

I just looked to make sure of the op amp number because it has been a while - no joke - TI owns Burr-Brown now. Guess that is where they spent the money from selling my division off to Raytheon.

the tin is neg ground so the leds can be soldered to it.
the tin is the heatsink for the leds.

Just realized that the metal Altoids tin could function as additional heat sinking for a Luxeon.

Re: april fools wordless workshop now on cpfa

You should put a link to this thread up on your auction listing. I had to hunt down this thread to find out what I was bidding on /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif
