Has anyone noticed the newer, compact design of the StreamLight Stylus 3 (white LED)? I had just ordered some for gifts and I figured I would keep one as a backup to my original Stylus 3, but I noticed that they don't call it the 3 anymore. It is now approaching the size of a real pen and not as unwieldy as a long chopstick protruding from your shirt pocket. Have a look for yourself: Please excuse the sloppy photo.

So.... Just how much shorter is it???
How about a measurement. Looking at your
photo it doesn't look all that much shorter.
I compared your pic to my Stylus and the new one would still seem a bit too long for easy shirt pocket carry. What are they calling the new model??

Mercator: It appears to be approx 3/4 in shorter in length, and both the screening on the light and the blister pack it comes in just refer to it as the "Stylus by Streamlight w/white LED".

Brock: No, it is still protruding, but comparing closely, the newer light's LED appears to be either shorter in height or streamlight has mounted it further back in the light, but only by 1/16 in at best.

Hope this answered your questions.

Yup, just got 5 last week and noticed they are different. They don't even list a Stylus2 on the info page anymore, just the 3 cell Stylus3, called simply Stylus by Streamlight now.

The new ones are shorter, LED sticks out less than the older one, and the barrel is ribbed now instead of knurled. Cap is also different, with the best change being the spring inside the cap, it's tapered now, so stays centered better, and the button is much easier to push for momentary on than the old model.

When you remove the cap, the threads that show are brass colored, dunno if the whole barrel is now brass instead of 6000 aluminum like the older models?

Still my all time favorite pocket light, I carry one every single day....

DebtFree:
I bought them from Brightguy, who BTW, gives excellent service. I didn't specify the new model, but that is what they now carry. It still uses 3-AAAA batteries, but as noted above by myself and other posters, it's tailcap has been redesigned with brass threads, and as to how they shortened it I'm not quite sure. It is approx 3/4" shorter than the original Stylus3. It definitely feels less awkward and I simply love it. I use it as my daily use light as I have to inspect many controller circuits which are located in not-so-brightly lit places. When reading serial numbers off of IC chips, it it ideal since LEDs generally don't have rings or hotspots as I'm sure you are already are aware. Anyway Brightguy has a decent price and in doing business with him in the past, I didn't even hesitate to give him my most recent order. He processes your order most promptly and I live two states away from his so my package arrives pretty quickly. I typically order on a Sunday, and the goods arrive by Wednesday.

Hope I answered your question.
