This is technically a light...technically not a light...tritium based and uses no batteries. Looks like it would be ideal for reading charts at night.
They do have a special flat magnifying chart reader (shown here: http://www.mbmicrotec.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?languageId=en&tabId=23 ) as well although the magnification would tend to make it difficult to tell scale at a glance.
Has anyone seen these for sale and are they available to civilians? Clicking the order button leads to something incomprehensibly written in German...
