World\'s smallest Luxeon flashlight ...

Smallest ever Luxeon light? I'm not entirely sure, but it's pretty darn small. It's made of brass, uses a 1 watt Luxeon and TonyB lens. On a fresh battery, it out throws an arc AAA. The battery doesn't last long, but it was fun to build.

Here are the pics….

Wow that is small... Any more details? How is it switched on? What kind of batteries does it use?

Re: World\'s smallest Luxeon flashlight ...

MTFD, Switching is done by tightening the lower half of the light towards the LED. It's a very tight press fit with a tiny camming action. Press the tail for intermittent, twist 1/8th turn for constant on. Right now, it uses one 312 watch battery that's about 1/4" in diameter. As stated, it doesn't stay super bright for very long, but I was very surprised it's as bright as it is on a fresh battery. The press fit between halves is so tight, I suspect it is somewhat water resistant, but I have yet to test this,

Jon,
I thought it looked like a casing as well, but it's actually two sizes of brass tubing, one nested inside the other. It's actually a bit larger than a .22, and slightly smaller than a .38. Maybe I should call it "the bullet" or some such thing.

Thanks

Re: World\'s smallest Luxeon flashlight ...

so cool... a bunch of us have been trying to shrink a lux to minimum size... going to very hard if not pointless to try to beat this one.. only uses one cell? what's the runtime and what's the brightness falloff?

Do you store it in the cylinder of a revolver? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: World\'s smallest Luxeon flashlight ...

Andre,
yes, it only uses one 312 cell. I have nto had the chance to do any runtime tests. I estimate about 15 minutes at maximum brightness, then gradually dimming over the course of the next hour.

83,
I suppose it would do well as a bore light. Gotta keep those barrels clean /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, FWIW, I have a second battery case with a tiny loop soldered in place.
