Hello All,

just an idea for a 2d/2c mag mod (might work)

Take one 2 cell mag,
one o-sink for said mag
a 1w or a 3w luxeon

and pretty well follow the instructions for a space needle minus the 3x123 batty holder and spring cut!

would it work????

Neg,
For alkalines, no it probably wouldn't work. 3v isn't quite enough to really do much for the luxeon in direct drive. You would need some kind of boost circuit, like a BadBoy, MadMax, Fatman, or such. Step it up one cell in DD, and they work great though! A 3D LuxIII in direct drive is crazy bright, and lasts almost forever.

neg will built a *moon* mag and
with 3V there is a light output from a Luxeon LED :)

But its a big light then for such a low output :)

Cheers

I came back to edit my post, but I see Ralf has beat me to the info.

An "H" Vf bin starts at 3.03v. So I suppose a 3v DD light would work (the lower the Vf bin, the better), but you wouldn't get much light out of it without a very low Vf bin. H is the lowest I recall ever seeing. The plus would be that it would be VERY efficient.

I second Ralf's statement that it would be an aweful big light for such a low output.

just a quick question, I currentally run a few LUX III's DD off a Li-ION at 1.1A. What is the average current DD off 3x'D' cells, and is it safe. I hear it done here alot, but never tried it.

WildRice,

that depends on what binning your LUXIII is.
I run a TXOK with 3C cells in DD and the current
is around 1.2 A. Thats fairly "safe" with a proper
heat sink.

Neg, Add a badboy or madmax converter and you'll get quite a bit more output. Or, take a 2D mag, convert it to 3C w/ 1" PVC pipe and run a Lux3 (K or L Vf) direct-drive.

Regarding DD safe levels--
If I put a LuxIII ***K bin DD off 3 D-cells, how long will the LED see more than an amp of current? I just wonder when the batteries will start to die to the point the LEDs are not being overdriven.
