I have one of CM's modified KL1s, this one received a boost to 500mA and a nice Luxeon R2K with a "Y0"-ish tint (sure looks like my TY0Ls). Very nice light, very happy with it. BRIGHT!
Ordered a couple of GP 1100mAH NiMHs from Batterystation, built a spacer around a Mag bulb collar that I had lying around, it's the perfect height. I had to add some solder blobs to the GP cells, even though GP says "don't solder directly to the battery" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif gotta do what I gotta do. The cells seem fine, read the tips from js about soldering Tigerlight packs. Work hard, work fast, get in and get out in 2-3 seconds if possible. Don't block the safety vents.
So now I have a KL1 on a L4 body with two NiMH and free light. However, I've noticed an interesting phenomenon - when the modified KL1 is running in boost mode, either on single-cell CR123A or 2xNiMH, it only operates at stock current. It's the same brightness as my other stock KL1 on 1 cell.
When I put it on 2xCR123A, that's where it really shines - it really stomps the stock KL1, which it SHOULD with 500mA. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Has anybody else noticed this phenomenon with modified KL1s?
