This is a project I am working on that provides for a rechargeable solution for what is one of the smallest for brightness HID flashlights I own. It is the MiniHID ufokillerz and SilverLegacy had created.
I had a problem though. For smallest, it had to be a 4X 123 MiniHID. The problem? I hate non-rechargeable so a rechargeable solution had to be created.
Well, I have now created a rechargeable solution for the MiniHID. It is but one possibility; perhaps others may have some good suggestions for improvement.
The solution I had come up with is a boost converter incorporated into the battery pack itself. It was essential the MiniHID remained untouched from it's original form and finish.
In brief, and I'll add to this as I get time, it is based on a holder like SilverLegacy makes, but had a boost converter incorporated and forming part of the assembly. It has been tested with unprotected 1765 Li-Ion cells but will shortly be capable of accepting 1768's or even Pila 168S.
I had tried auto current detection which would then power up the converter from a shutdown mode to save power but for technical reasons involving the WA ballast this was ruled out as unreliable. I even tried sense contacts to parts of the Mag tube, but once again unreliable. I repeat, not an option to mod the MiniHID.
It is in the concept > maybe able to make for others phase at this point. I was only until recently able to make it for 1765's. It seems everyone that had an interest would like something for the Pila 168S rather than unprotected cells. This had meant considerable effort had to go into being able to give to others what I already have for myself. I decided to see if I could oblige.
I'll give more details as I get time to link to pics and further information. This page will be updated accordingly.
Those already in the know I'm sure will be able to fill in the gaps easily.
Price? - not sure exactly myself, I am aiming for at or under $50 for a complete holder/converter TK solution and that seems very likely.
I have no interest in other battery pack/converter combo's other than what's here at this point in time as I don't have the time to commit to anything right now.
Feel free to copy the idea, post suggestions for improvement and even offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. You can even have the circuit. This is a hobby for me and I'm not in it for the puny profit I may make.
