Which Luxeon light is the easiest host for a star replacement mod? I'm looking to make install a blue luxeon star and I have basic hand tools and a soldering iron at my disposal.

I would say that the Q-III is a very easy mod. Takes 2 solder joints and about 10 minutes. The entire star is in the head of the Q-III, so its really easy to replace.

agreed, but then again it was my first and I was just tinkering...take a look at a Q-3 you will see
