Even with the shipping it only comes to ~$25.00, a pretty decent deal for a light that uses very cheap common AA batteries.

@Paul
i couple of days ago i heard about the Mr Bulk VIP.
http://www.taskled.com/techvip.html

this also should be able to drive a Lux3 with unter 3V input.

BUT i don´t know what really happen with the U and I (in) vs U & I (out).
Is it able to handle the Vf Shift? is it overdischarged 2x 1,2V rechargeables?

Sec thing worth to mention is that this booster is also multi level.

let me explain something.
Maybe a 2D or 2C Size Maglite will be used for modifikation.
than put a sec Switch in front of the Normal Mag switch.
Of course with Off/momentan on/constant on.
OFF for low maybe 300-400mA @ LED and ON is HigH Mode with 800-900mA @ LED
so you know every time what Brightness you get /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif and of course momentan for both /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I don´t have practical experience how well a Lambertain works with the Mag Reflector.

But this will be a Flashlight with
-Focusablitity
-easy to feed specialy with Strong D Size NiMH´s
-2 Switch for perfect and easy handling.

What i don´t like/don´t know
- Hard to changed LED maybe Lumiled should build a 3third LED Typ the " Luxeon Tower " :-D for focus lights.
-High current If the Regulation work it drains up to 2A don´t know if the Switch is able to do this for a long time.
- a bit big but still compact and Economy. With the upcomming K2 it should be outthrow a 3C Maglite Stock Bulb driven by 3 Rechargables.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It´s one of my Dream. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hi Phoenix.

that´s not correct.

Some can´t (carbon zinc better know as Long life or Heavy Duty (R6) and Alkali (LR6) that´s right.
but L91 and especially NiMH´s(last Charge should not be older than 30 Days) can handle this.

But it´s only for round about 40-70 Minutes.
That´s why a C or D size 2,4Volt real Lux3 Flashlight would be great.
Of course with Focusablitity and High low and regulation that can handle the Vf variations etc. ;-)

There are lot of little High Current flashlights out there. But good 2x C or D size Flashlights /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif no chance

Just have 2 Questions.
Does THIS light have momentan position, too? Unfortunately my Xm-3 Clone doesn´t have it :-(
And are you abled to measure the Current drain on fresh charged NiMH`s?

I belive this light does not use a TRUE LUXEON. It says luxeon but it's a clone.

NiMH can deliver the current if the boost circuit is good enough.

This is the Smartfire 3 Watt Luxeon Clone from emilion's workshop. Uses 3AAA in battery carrier.

Machining looks the same as the 2AA.

Ernest,
Emilion says he can get the 5watt. There seems to be only one ebay seller (tradedigit) that has them @ $49.95 + $10 shipping. Does the 3watt version you have of the Smartfire seem to be of better quality than Nuwai 3watt lights?

john2551,

Build quality is equal.

The Nuwai lights I have all use Lumilid Luxeons. The Smartfire uses a Clone Luxeon. If you were to shine the Smartfire, I don't think you can tell it is a Clone Luxeon. The beam looks the same to me as a Lumilid Luxeon.

Plus you can't beat the price of the Smartfire, $22.50. Shipping is also included in the price.

I ordered one Smartfire 3W 2AA, from emilion. Pictures later... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

i guess that sort of depends on how long it is. I mean, i was about to buy an xm3 a while ago, BUT it was just so darn big. I ended up getting a longbow eco instead.

Anyone know how long this flashlight is?

According to Emilion's page :
157mm X 33mm (Bezel)/ 27mm (Body)

The 3xAAA Smartfire is: 127mm X 36mm (Bezel)/ 27mm (Body)
"Thanks to the 36mm bezel, which enable a lager reflector, the SmartFire 3W AAA throws pretty well"

He lists the 2xAA as 700 lux & 3xAAA as 2700 lux.

For maybe 5 minutes, I'll wager. AAA cells weren't designed to handle large current drains. In most of Quickbeam's reviews, brightness nosedives almost immediately.
