Neat idea. They installed a similar one of these near where I live (Washington DC) as a test of the idea. The test model isn't solar charged but hooks into the grid. However it only comes on when someone is inside the kiosk. I think the idea is twofold, to increase passenger safety and so the bus drivers know someone is waiting at night.

Very nice. I wish we would get them in NY but something like that would last two weeks here before vandals pulled off the solar panels and anything else of value, plus broke the glass.

we have the domed looking ones in Toronto, they're pretty bright.
*edit* I just noticed the caption on the bottom of that picture.

We don't have bus service anymore in Chino Hills but I've seen some solar powered bus shelters over in Diamond Bar. They use compact fluorescent lights though. LEDs might have more runtime but these bus shelters have been around there for a while.

You guys like illuminated bus stops? I usually sit off to the side in the dark corner if at night or early morning with all lights shut off. Otherwise I get asked for change, lights, smokes or time.
