Why is a maglite called a m@g around here?

Mag-lite filed some lawsuits to enforce their patents, which somefolks here thought were bogus. So they refused to say "Mag" and say instead "M@g".
I happen to think that someone who creates intellectual property is entitled to enforce their patent rights, but thats sort of a touchy subject around here. :)

Personally, I refer to them as Gaglite. Being able to protect intellectual property is important, but in my opinion, Gaglite abused/abuses the process in an attempt to stifle competition. I have no doubt that some of Gaglite's lawsuits have merit, but spending $70 million in litigation seems extremely excessive. The $70 million figure was a few years ago, so who knows what the total is today???
Perhaps even more galling is the fact that Mr. Gaglite himself seemed so proud that they've spent so much in litigation. The "fact" was noted in at least one magazine article, and if memory serves, was even on the home page of Gaglite's website at the time.

$70M can fund a lot of research & development...
I've always thought the practice was a bit goofy and haven't jumped in on that one. It has always been mag or maglite to me. I'm too lazy to make the @ symbol for anything except to explain that I don't do it....:p

It seems that the only people who call it "M@g" are the people who are not happy with the Maglite company and possibly spell it like that to avoid being accused of libel when writing of their displeasure with MagLite.
I just call it MagLite. Then again, I like MagLites, so there wouldn't be a problem of me being accused of libel.
