I've received the XM-L drop-in for the Maglite. Same quality manufacturing as the XP-G drop-in. Simple yet so elegant. The precision is amazing. As best as I could measure, it looks perfectly centred, the tinning and soldering looks so clean.

Anyway, can't wait to try it tonight.

And the quick review of the XM-L drop-in is that it's great. Definitely a noticeable step up from the XP-G.
Rated at 700 lumens, spot on. Only had the 630 TK40 to compare it with and it looks just as bright. At these levels even the ceiling bounce was hard to gauge with just my eyes as to the difference. What was really good was the throw. It lights things up better than the TK40 at a distance. I don't really have any other throwers but this is great. 100 metres, not a problem, the tree on other side of the football field was lit in all it's glory.

Tint on my XM-L was a bit green around the edges when compared to the TK40, which now seems a bit blue. Initially I didn't notice the green and though that the overall tint was a little bit warm. Very happy with the unit. Have to keep the head out of focus as the light is just searing when it is tightly focused and you turn it on near a wall.

Unit was easy to install as usual. I put it in my 4D and the head did get warm after 5 minutes. Not blistering hot let alone hot. On a side note, the Tenergy centura LSD D cells didn't have a problem with amperage being drawn from them.

Hmm-
I might go for a standard drop and sell my M61-219

It's just a weight & modes thing.
I really like the tint + beam.
I've been using it in my EDC 18500 which rides in my wax coat.
It's just bit heavy and I'm paranoid about not having a low mode.

I've already got too many hosts to buy an MD2 w hi lo ring.

Am I crazy?

I hate to hear this. An MD2 with hi lo ring is my all time favorite light. It's just simple, robust, and perfect in every way. If I were a rich man I would order one and send it you myself.

That said, I couldn't EDC it. The brass does make it quite heavy and any host that does it justice makes it even heavier.

since you can never have too much Malkoff eyecandy and my wife and son both got the latest hi-tech smart phone with HD cameras in them. Just had to test the HD cameras the "right way".

retest comparison of most of my malkoff lights (not the M60 Warm Flood and not the M60 MCE quad emitter flood) lights. Quad LED Wildcat, Original Hound Dog with the XPG, original M60 M30, M61 compared to a low budget Thrunite XML Drop-in, in a Solarforce head. Not listed in the order tested. Taking advantage of a HD video camera while I can.

I should say that all of my Malkoff lights including the floods are going strong. Drop them on concrete far more than I like (tonight setting up the tray table out on the street) and of course they all work without a glitch.

I picked up a M31 from Oveready the other day. I'm not a real big cool tint fan, but I am a fan of this one . It does have a very faint bluish tint to it but it's not all that noticeable. I'm getting to be a big fan of the M31, I also have the Nichia M31 219 as well, that way I can switch them out for different uses. In my opinion you should never leave home without a Malkoff in your pocket.

Hey guys!

May I ask for some advice, again :)

I have a Malkoff Hound Dog XM-L, with a MD3 body on the way, and aleady have a multimeter, and a Pila IBC charger.

My question is, what are all of my available battery options in the MD3? And what run times am I looking at?

I would like to use only high quality, protected cells.

Really appreciate your help and thought!

Thanks,
Matt.

Cheers guys!

I think I am going to run two AW 18500 1500mah cells.

I am going to expect around 30 minutes, full output.

Is this too optimistic?

Matt.

Based on the published current draw of 1.25 Amps at 9v, I'm guessing you might even get more runtime than that ... (very rough calculation should put it over one hour) ... ?

I've not tried 18500's but have timed my Hound Dog XM-L on 2 17670's (which I think were around about the same capacity) and it lasted 55 minutes on high before cutting out.

What kind of runtime should I expect from a pair of 18650 cells from the Hound Dog XML and also is there more then one version of this light, like the Wildcat? I just picked one up also as I "needed" a thrower.

I just purchased a HD XM-L from the marketplace. My current "small form factor thrower" is a Solarforce Masterpiece Pro 1 and it's just too much of a specialty tool with only one mode and no spill. I'm hoping that the low on the HD and some more adequate spill will make for a more versatile thrower.

I'll be joining this party soon. I'm new to lights in a way. I just bought a SF M951 for my AR and will be ordering a Malkoff M60 for it this week.
