Here is a setup for at home or even in the car and for camping...
Henry uses a system very similar to this using the PowerFilm 10 watt. Best to have 2 and daisy chain them together... because 2 is 1 and one is none. This system and charger allows you to charge any battery type. The PowerFilm 10 Watt is the most economical... the price per Watt is far better than their other offerings... just don't for a second believe you are getting 10 watts. You aren't. You are lucky to get half that.

Have a couple of Rotaries (250 and 200 CRI) along with a stockpile of CR123, AA, and AAA lithium primaries (working on adding more 16340 rechargeable batts.). Costco always seems to be running a deal on Eneloops, so there's a mountain of those floating around. I try to rotate through and keep the Eneloops charged up a couple of times per year. (Like any good flashaholic, there's plenty of other lights, too... :))

Enjoy using the little Pak-Lites, which take up hardly any space. Bonus is that 9V batteries are always available to be poached from smoke detectors (or at least will last longer on the shelves during a disaster). These things will run for many hours, and are battery vampires. Speaking of smoke detectors, once you change your batteries twice a year, you've got a constant supply of cells to save up for future use.

Alternate between a Triple Aught Design "Dispatch Bag" or a Goruck "Bullet 10L" for EDC / BOB use. Found that a mixture of both EDC and BOB works the best for me. I've got stuff to make the day easier (pens, paper, spare batteries, flash drives, snacks, etc.), as well as stuff to boost the odds in an emergency (spare light, first aid kit, small survival kit, signaling gear, compass, etc.). If the bag is too bulky or heavy, it's going to get left behind. Always a work in progress...

And I always try to have the basics on me. Missing from the pic is a way to start a fire (lighter, matches, or ferro rod). Surprisingly, the pen gets a lot more use than I thought it would... LOL.

Then there's backup comms., with a 2M VHF ham radio and a AA battery clamshell. Cell towers are only going to last *so* long on backup batteries and/or generators. (Or they can be overloaded with calls and you won't get out.) Have area repeaters pre-programmed in so it's less fumbling if needed.

Enjoying this thread and reading up on (and seeing) everyone's awesome kits! Good stuff!

^^ Sure thing -- that's the older model SureFire F04 diffuser. Wish they still made them! ^^

Batteries within a battery, nice! Didn't realize that, thanks -- could be handy if the brown stuff really hits the rotating device.

Most (but not all) 9V batteries contain 6x LR61 (a little smaller than AAAA - "quad A" not AAA) but there are a few other alternate constructions

Took posession of a 2xAA 200lm hcri today. Got what I thought was a great deal on BST. The "AA" contingency in the BOB faraday bag is nearing completion. Adding a Sony single cell srf-39 AM/FM when my second one shows up and then I'm calling it good for now.

Yes, you got a great deal and you're very lucky to have seen that sale thread before I did. :poke:

Regarding the faraday bag, my understanding is that HDS electronics are inside a faraday cage within the head of the light. Would the faraday bag not be redundant?

The bag also houses a Steripen that runs on AA's, a CountyComm AM-FM-SW radio, eneloops and a small solar charger. Keeping the HDS in there just keeps all my AA GHB gear in one place. 👍

Awesome idea to have some standardization of batteries in a kit for when the SHTF! Curious what you're using for a faraday bag? :sssh:

Also wondering here about the HDS in an EMP scenario...

Bigfoot- I chose a Mission Darkness bag. I have no affiliation with them, paid full price for my bag, etc. Just found them to be very sturdy and in my opinion well designed. Mine's a molle compatible one, roughly 8x10x2.5" No link, but if you look you'll find them. :)

^^ Thanks! ^^ Will have to check out those bags!

Good to know... at least if nothing else works when the grid goes down, the HDS will bring provide some illumination and comfort. :D
