Bit of fun with an HID

You've gotta be kidding, I have the 65W as well and it's only in the low 200k cd range and that's peak candlepower. It's still in the lower rung of lowest throwing HIDs around. Shining at trees, you need about 1 million cd at 400m to get a kick out of it. :D

Seeing demand for an improved reflector for the ebay HID torches

I got comfortably over 200k cd for my 65 watter. So what kind of throw are you looking at? 200k+ cd, 75mm reflector, sounds ok to me. Nevermind the OTF lumens (pretty ok as well). Just take it that such lights are meant for 50m-400m work, and it illuminates objects at those distances VERY...

Magic Fire 40W HID 4000-Lumen 4x18650 HID Flashlight

Hi...well from mohanjude's picture here it looks ok. It's overexposed of course so you can't see the artifacts, but the filament image is pretty normal for HIDs (even for polarions). But BVH mentioned focus, i didn't know that it could be focus. So focus very carefully (it was mentioned to be...

Magic Fire 40W HID 4000-Lumen 4x18650 HID Flashlight

I guess it's best to use protected cells for this light. But better to use the smaller ones.

Magic Fire 40W HID 4000-Lumen 4x18650 HID Flashlight

Lightknot, take a picture? HIDs are famous for not so good hotspot and stuff. Even a Polarion wouldn't be perfect, definitely not in the LED kind of realm. Colours are plentiful even for 5000k. Your description does depict it as horrible and it seems that something is damaged...

Magic Fire 40W HID 4000-Lumen 4x18650 HID Flashlight

I guess there definitely would be some noticeable variances between the lights. For my "65W" ebay lights, some of them are a fair bit brighter (I haven't measured them) and yeah some bulbs definitely would be bent more than others and it's not really bendable. My 100W ballasts are pretty ok...

Magic Fire 40W HID 4000-Lumen 4x18650 HID Flashlight

Hey guys, 36W input seems pretty ok to me. I mean this is like those Ebay/Aliexpress alu tube stuff...usable but if you are talking about "CPF enthusiasts level", it's definitely not there. Regarding pricing, I was offered a lower pricing, but i'm now also into another hobby (more expensive)...

Magic Fire 40W HID 4000-Lumen 4x18650 HID Flashlight

Yeah, haha so you know those cell, also make sure you get the CGR18650CH (grey) and not the CGR18650CG (LiCo, green wrapper)....of course it's not that the CG would not work. int-outdoor is ok, i've got quite a few lights from them. Callie Kustoms carry them as well if you want them fast...

Magic Fire 40W HID 4000-Lumen 4x18650 HID Flashlight

I read ULtrafire cells. Do not use the Ultrafire cells in this light, those in budgetlightforums have done tests on most budget cells and only the TF Flames can make it, namely the TF Flames 2400 and TF Flames 3000. If you don't believe me, you have to believe HKJ and our hobby chargers, if you...

Magic Fire 40W HID 4000-Lumen 4x18650 HID Flashlight

Fusion_m8, have to remember that HIDs usually would have a higher startup current, so during startup it might trigger the PCB. That said the TF Flames 2400 are actually not too bad and they would not trip at 4A. The IMRs definitely would work, do check if the springs are long enough and exert...

    TrustFire TR-J12

You need to run protected cells with this. Best is if you can do 26650, either IMRs like MKNE or the Trustfire Flames 26650 protected. The TF Flames line is actually pretty good, even HKJ acknowledges that it is quite good. Check out the Trustfire Flames tests at budgetlightforums, much more...

    Dereelight DBS-T XR-E R2 EZ900 Aspheric First Impressions

Well to contribute more to the topic, at least what you get for 86 bucks shipped now (last time was $79) is a HA flashlight which is "an upgradable system". I had the EZ1000 and just changed to to the EZ900 for 23 bucks shipped (60k -> 93k cd in an instant and worry-free). NExt time you can...

    Dereelight DBS-T XR-E R2 EZ900 Aspheric First Impressions

Since you brought up mods, the brighest XM-L aspheric I have seen (not verified but it definitely looks like it) is 750k cd. Even with measurement errors factored in, it is way up there. Big lens though.... :) If you are talking about HIDs then that's but of course. But the longer HID arcs...
