I have a flashlight app on my phone. I've never used it once. I forget it's there.
Playing around with it after the initial download, I noticed it drained the phone battery quickly. I'd rather use my EDC light for illumination and save my phone for communication if I'm in a "jam".
...was going to pick one of these up, but after viewing this thread perhaps I should wait until Fenix resolves this issue. Thanks for the fine review and thorough testing, rookiedaddy....much appreciated!
With the advent of 18650s and 14500's it's hard to make a compelling argument for the 2xAA ...but for the average **** or Jane, a 2xAA with some eneloops or lithium primaries makes lots of sense. Even for me, a 2xAA with lithium primaries in the glove box is comforting.
By my count, I still...
I am using Panasonic NCR18650B 3400mAh Protected button top...these can typically be a bit longer than other protected batteries but fit just fine in the Fenix PD32
I bought an E15 recently and had exactly the same experience...all I had in the house was a olight 650 mah rcr. I couldn't get more than 5 seconds on the highest setting with the Olight. Bought a Fenix rcr....problem solved. Those Olight rcrs are feeble.
....personally I'd be wiling to sacrifice some throw for the Fenix, which has 4 well-spaced levels and a momentary tail switch. No parasitic drain issue on the Fenix either.
..this an single AA flashlight that's being advertised by Fenix as an EDC. I don't think using strobe mode as self-defense was Fenix's intent here. I think the priority was to offer a nice little NW AA light for EDC.... usefully bright with decent throw that's 14500 compatible. That's just my take.
JETBeam/NITEYE makes the EC-R26 that seems to be on sale right now for less than $30 through most of the overseas retailers...I like mine. Check out the reviews here and over on Budget Light Forums.
Any decent light with lithium primaries will work. Get some back-up batteries as well...I wouldn't spend a fortune on a light for the glove box. I use an older 2 x AA Fenix L2D premium with lithium primaries, and it's perfect for my needs.
To my thinking a light with a strobe/beacon function...
