Just got mine and no doubt it's a thrower.
Overall output is very acceptable but throwing is what this light is all about.
That big old reflector ain't just for show -- it puts out a beam that's downright purty!
If NightOps would put this reflector in the Gladius their sales would double.
I don't have too many 1AA lights to compare it to and I've no real measuring instruments but in a ceiling bounce test it was considerably brighter than both the JetBeam and the L1P.
It also just edged out my 1AA McR-20 Maglite running a TX0J MadMax lite.
This was with an alkaline in the Maxlite and an Energizer lithium in the Mag.
Tint is very white.
The JetBeam looks very slightly blue and the L1P looks very green against it.
And you gotta love the modularity!
Pretty neat seeing my McL4 and my McLux-1 running on 1AA.
BTW.....
There was talk above about the super SS-bin LEDs in these lights but from what I've read, the SS-bin LEDs are going into the Maxlite-2 which hasn't been released yet.
According to the
main Maxlite thread, all of the first run Maxlites and the ones currently being sold by Lighthound have UW0Js.
