I figure if I am going to carry around a pound of lead acid I may as well make the best of it. Actually, I would like to dump the lead acid all together and go to a 18650 or similar, if possible.
The reflector is plastic, same with the window.
I see some potential here, I just lack the skill.

Looks like a standard H3/H1 incan lamp. Should be fine with 3x18650 (12.6V)... unless the wattage of the lamp exceeds the current capacity of the 18650 cells you plan on using. You should also be aware of all the safety hazards running an incan and 3x18650 setups... they are considerably more dangerous than a SLA.

Your safest solution would be a ~12V protected hobby battery pack and a hobby charger thats capable of balance charging.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.
This battery is a 6V battery, so does that mean the bulb would be a 6V bulb?
More importantly, If I go to a 12V cell (or 18650's) could I swap out the bulb too?
This light is used very intermittently, on for 10 second bursts only a few times per evening.
